Objectives:

This is an intensive medical French course tailored to your medical speciality.
It is intended for non-French speakers who have a medical profession and are or will be working in France. For every profession, there is a course that focuses on that speciality.
The aim of this course is to prepare or strengthen healthcare professionals to practise their speciality in a French-speaking environment.
The prerequisite for this course is at least level A2 of the CEFR.
The course gets its final set-up based on the specific needs of the student, sometimes in consultation with the employer. Some students want to practice job interviews or a conversation with for example ‘l’Ordre des Médecins’. Others prefer to work on their written French.

Topics covered include :

– Vocabulary specific to your medical speciality
– Preparing for the interview with the French Medical or Dental Council (Conseil de l’Ordre des Médecins ou Chirurgiens-dentistes)
– Numerous videos relating to your medical speciality
– The essentials of French grammar combined with medical vocabulary
– Numerous communication situations: consultations with patients and exchanges with other healthcare professionals
– Any administrative difficulties you may encounter when setting up your practice
– 1st course: Welcome booklet and an initial level test. Last course: final level test.
– You will be asked regularly if the course still meets your needs and wishes, and it will be adapted in line with your comments or suggestions. At the end of the course, you will receive a satisfaction survey.

You will receive :

– Grammar book ‘Grammaire Progressive, niveau intermédiaire’ (sent by post) + corrections (by e-mail)
– Le Français des Médecins (sent by post)
> These two books will be integrated into the courses.

Will be recommended for yourself:
– A book on your medical speciality from the ‘Réussir les ECNi’ collection.

General notes:

The lessons must take place on weekdays between 8.00am and 6.00pm.
Exceptionally on weekdays between 19:00 and 20:30

A video/article or podcast on a medical subject
A grammar topic
Any other subject related to your specific needs (interview Counselling, pronunciation, etc.)
Feedback on homework + Homework for the next session.

The trainer :

Maarten Stroes
He studied French language and literature/French as a foreign language and French history in France (Montpellier and Lille) and in the Netherlands. Wrote several French teaching methods.
Working as a French teacher since 1998, taught, among other things, at a French ‘Collège’
Has given intensive courses in French to foreign health professionnals since the end of 2010 (more than 25 different medical specialities). Since 2018 he recruits European health professionals for French hospitals, clinics, health centers, etc.
