Be thoroughly guided and prepared for a medical career in France
Thorough and careful preparation by knowledgeable and experienced advisers is essential for foreign doctors and other care professionals who are considering a new medical career in France.
The guidance we offer:
Step 1
We check if you can practice in France ***. We inform you about the organisation of the health system in France and we present the different possibilities to practice in France (public or private sector, salaried or self-employed positions).
We help you to prepare and plan your arrival in France (registration with the Council of the Order and linguistic path towards the required level of French).
Step 2
Once you have made your choice, you send us your CV translated into French and we put you in contact with employers offering positions that interest you. We are present during the first Skype interviews to make sure that everything is clear and understood, as well as at the job interview on site. Finally, we negotiate together the terms of your employment contract in France.
Step 3
We will accompany you throughout the registration process with the French medical Boarder. This can take 2 to 4 months. For this reason, we will ask you to provide us as soon as possible with sworn translations of certain certificates and your diplomas. We will also help you purchase professional liability insurance.
During this period, you will follow a medical French course in our training centre. By mutual agreement, we opt for a one-to-one course of one week or a training program by Zoom. Our clients offer you the costs of these courses and for the accompaniment.
An adequate command of the French (medical) language for consults, peer meetings, refresher training and general conversation is a basic condition for success. That is why French language and culture courses are a prominent part of Work your Way to France’s services.
Step 4 (optional)
If you are setting up as a freelancer (‘en libéral’), we can offer you additional support by coordinating your installation together with our French specialist partners.
Step 5
After starting to work in France, we will accompany you during the first period and we will intervene if you encounter major obstacles.
Step 6 (optional)
Once settled and after having practiced in France for some time, you can follow our perfecting course in medical French which will allow you to improve your level in French and to exchange with other European colleagues practicing in France.
*** To be able to practice in France, you need to:
1. have completed your full training (general medicine and specialisation) in an EU country and have the nationality of an EU country
2. have found a job in France before you can be registered at the French medical Boarder
3. master the French language at level B2 on the day you start working.
